I recently returned home from an amazing trip to Vancouver, BC and Seattle, WA. Most of the trip was outdoors and we had excellent luck with the weather. It was first and foremost a personal trip, so I stuck to taking iPhone photos, if at all. But I thought it essential to bring a camera on this particular day: whale watching day!
We went out on a boat trip from Vancouver’s Granville Island through the Strait of Georgia and were incredibly lucky to find a family of whales.
Since I shoot wide 95% of the time, I brought an all-purpose wide angle lens that has served me well on previous trips. But you know, turns out I hadn’t thought about whales and that’s not the greatest lens for photographing wild whales! Luckily, they got pretty close to our boat.

We also found a group of sea lions on the way back to Vancouver!
Thank you for the wonderful experience, Vancouver!
